Was okay, but didn't enjoy the read. Frustrated me and all. Disliked the MC. Originally posted here.Letter to my Future SelfDear Patricia,it is February as I am writing this letter to you, even though the review is scheduled for April. You’ve had several issues with this book and to be fair and honest, you skipped several pages in the middle of the book, because you couldn’t take it anymore. So fair warning: These pages could have blown your mind, and you just don’t know it! So based on that, this here really is just. a. letter. to my future self.Jersey Angel was supposed to be a great and fresh read, but the main character, Angel, really annoyed you in a way that few to no Young Adult heroines have managed so far. Except for Zoey Redbird, but duh. She is a very superficial character and even though you know quite a lot of girls just like her, and concluded that Angel might be a relatable character for some readers, it was hard for you to read her story.Several reviewers said that they liked how Angel was very confident about her sexuality, without all the slut shaming. In theory you liked that. It’s why you requested the Galley if I recall correctly. A girl who is sexually confident, but not so sure about love, and all in all satisfied with her life; who does not have great plans of being a surgeon one day but a recipent, and so on, sounded like a great story to read. The problem, though, was that you really hated Angel, and for several reasons, two of them being:1. She treated her boyfriend like crap. In the end she learned a little, but..2. She slept with her best friend’s boyfriend. (And with some other guy, but that one was single, so that’s okay.)While some people might really enjoy this story and the way that Angel does not shy away from telling the reader that she likes it rough, while several readers might enjoy reading about her journey and about an indipendent girl… you simply thought that she was a bitch. Not because she had lots of sex, but because she disregarded other people’s feelings. Next to that it didn’t feel like a real plot. Things happened, but like our real lives it really was “just a summer” if you know what I mean. There was no grande plotline, which would have been okay, if not for the following reason: For a book to be readable, it requires at least two of the following points: Good plot. Good characters. Good writing style. As you might have guessed already, you didn’t like the character(s). There was no real plot. And the writing style wasn’t bad, but it certainly did not blow your mind. All my best,PatriciaPS. One of her friends get pregnant. You didn’t read all of that, but it might have been brilliant. Ask someone you trust and who has read the book if it was. Thanks.
