Rapture: The Shadowdwellers

Rapture - Jacquelyn Frank Probably the best in the series. Who would have thought so? I honestly didn't.. But there it is. I liked it. :)* * This is the second novel in the Dwellers series and I think it was also the best one, with a 2.5, or.. hm, maybe a 3 stars rating. The hero and heroine are more interesting to read about and have a deeper connection than the other couples in Frank's novels. Which doesn't say much because most of the times these couples don't have any connection at all, but in their case I could deal.I didn't like Frank's fate-talk. She always does stuff like that, making her protagonists bond, creating absolutely evil villains and in short using all the things an author shouldn't, because that makes them appear lazy imo.Still, this one is a novel I actually enjoyed, at the same time telling myself that I can't possibly like this stuff. So, I'll call it one of my guilty pleasure reads and be comfortable with the knowledge that I'm not the only one who liked it.(We also get some Trace and Ashla plus her pregnancy)It's one of the better trashy paranormal romance novels and I only wish that Frank'll one day care more about the characters and world, because without them there can't be a good romance. Or, at least, that's my opinion. This is actually another reason why I gave this novel a higher rating. Daw and Magnus both have to make progress, they have to face things and there is very obvious characterdevelopment. They hurt eachother, but in a way that's kind of.. satisfying. When he's an asshole she doesn't take it. She fights back and being as young as she is, she also sees some things clearer than he does.'Go then!' he spat at her. 'Do not lie here and take my unkind abuses any longer, little girl. Run away and hide like the child you are.'Daenaira felt the sting of the insult lashing viciously across her back.Just like the nine-tailed cat. With her chest aching and her eyes bruning with emotions she refused to feel, never mind show to him, she moved to leave.'Dae...'She couldn't help herself. She had to stop when she heard the plain hurt and confusion in his voice. Her chin held high, she turned to look at him over her shoulder. She chilled herself to the vunlerability in his eyes, however. She wouldn't be tricked by it again.'You think you are so superior to my aunt and my uncle,' she said hoarsely, knowing she was doing what she had always done best. Going violently for his balls.'But you're so much worse. At least they were honest. At least they never fucked with my head by pretending to be anything other than the monsters they were.'Daenaira turned her back on him and left. (…)'Don't leave me. I know. I know I'm destroying everything, doing it all wrong, but please... don't go from me.''Why? You don't need me, remember?' she flung back at him, gritting her teeth when his eyes flickered with an almost imperceptible flinch. 'You don't want me. I was forced down your throat.''Drenna, stop!' Magnus wrenched out (..)He couldn't stand to hear the cruel things he had said to her, even though he knew he deserved the pain of it and more. Penance. He deserved the harshest penance for what he had wrought today.'Hate me, if you will, but do not leave. Make me repent to you, sweet K'yindara. Make me earn back what I want to deserve. It doesn't have to be anything more than your friendship in the end if that's all you want to give, but I'm begging you not to leave me without giving me the chance to fix this mess I've made.' (..)This takes even more time and he isn't forgiven that easily, which is much better than what I had expected from Frank.I won't add anything to that, because there's not much left to tell. It's an almost good, but very typical Paranormal Romance novel and I think if you don't need to pay much for it or if you have lots of time, you won't really regret reading it. It won't rock your world either, though.f you're interested in this author, check out my featured authors post! (Includes links to excerpts, a list with all series' and the protagonists etc.)
